George Potter joined the VVC earlier this year and sent me a few handwritten letters, always nice to receive, reminding one of pre-internet days! An edit of George’s letters below..
“I write as a new member of VVC in your excellent Journal. My wife and I moved from South London/Surrey to settle in a new bungalow 2 years ago. I come to the Vespa club as a former Sidecar Club (F.O.S.C.) member.
I now have a 200cc PX and need to turn the clock back, a photo will explain…
I admit the scoot is Lambretta, SX200. The sidecar is a mixture of Vespa front end chassis and body all hand made at my home in London 1974-76.
May I request that any of the VVC riders that have any information on adding a third wheel to my PX200, what choice do I have? Does Piaggio have a scooter sidecar on offer, or did they produce their own sidecar for PX150-200 models? I do know of the Watsonian ‘Bambino’ s/c - also the ‘Cozy’ Indian s/c. Finally any information direct from any club member who has now, or at previous time a Vespa and sidecar (PX models), on fixing scoot floor to s/c chassis and/or extra stay or lug fixing?
I would be pleased to talk any time on the phone. Sorry no email, I live in a computer free zone by choice, or please write to me.*
Thanks Paul. - George.”
George included with his letters, the pictured (top of page image and bottom two images) photocopy cuttings from Eric Brockway’s 1993 Vespa book as examples and also asked if any members have any knowledge of these photographs..??
*Note, George has given me permission to print his phone number and home address for corespondence, requesting that I “ditch the DPA and any other petty regs out the window” - much as I’d like to I’ll no doubt get the club in hot water with the DPA (Data Protection Act). So if any VVC members can help George out with any PX sidecar tips/useful information, please let me know by email and I will pass it on to him. My email address is vespamore@hotmail.co.uk Thanks in advance - I hope members will be able to help him out.
Paul Hart (VVC Editor).
