Spotted this great picture of ‘Irish’ Jack Lyons on his Douglas Sportique to support the latest release of The DownBeat Magazine.
I’m sure most of you will know that Jack Lyons (aka Irish Jack) was the real life inspiration for the Jimmy character in Quadrophenia - he was a close friend and huge fan of the Who from their earliest R&B and Mod days.
The Downbeat magazine is produced by the nice people from the Club-a-gogo and Downbeat club, located in Newcastle - why not support them by ordering a copy or maybe put your dancing shoes on and head up for a night on the toon,

Taking its name from Newcastle's Jazz club, the Downbeat Club. The Downbeat, in its 60s heyday, was the place to go to for Beats, Mods and Jazz lovers of the North East.
Following the success of Issue 1 and 2 we have built up a loyal band of Downbeat readers who tell us they are loving what we are doing, thanks for that! The Downbeat magazine in Issue 3 will encompass all of our passions in one place, music, new artists, sub cults, heritage and interviews with people we admire and respect. The magazine will predominantly have a 60s flavour but not always. And we aim to feature an article on the North East's musical heritage in each issue. We have no advertising in the magazine so it is stuffed full with editorial.
