Riding our Vespas has been somewhat curtailed and on club member Auro’s suggestion, it’s an opportunity to see what we’re all up to tinkering away on in our collective sheds, workshops and garages.

To start this off, Italian Auro Meotto, residing in Den Haag, Holland has been fitting the new SIP Vape ignition kit to his ACMA 150GL…

Engine wise, Auro has kept it ‘as factory’ set-up and along with the new Vape ignition has fitted a Polini CP21 carb. So what are the benefits of the new ignition and are these evident since fitment.. Auro says “in theory spark is good strength at all times, starting up even when cold is easier, less moving/fragile parts there to break when you least need. This said, vintage people say that if you have a rewired coil (HT), and a re-magnetised flywheel and good condenser… all works.” What about performance, any improvement.. ? “I have the static ignition version - no difference in performance; however, the dynamic version should change the timing at high revs to help.” Auros’ short video of the first run after fitting the Vape ignition..

It would be great if VVC members contribute to this feature as I have a dearth of material to write about in these moments, unsurprisingly. Please email me with a few words and photos of your projects and maintenance from the inner sanctums of your man sheds, currently underway and helping you to while away some of the extra hours we find ourselves with - vespamore@hotmail.co.uk

Thanks - Paul Hart (VVC Editor).
