On what must have been the hottest, or one of the hottest, August Bank Holiday weekend’s on record, C.Spavento was paying a visit to Brighton’s Mod Weekender. The Capitan may have heard the call of the sea or was it the calls of the ‘peacocks’ strutting their finery?
"Clear blue sky, 30 degrees, azure sea, stunning architecture, yes, it's fabulous Brighton. Once again the bank holiday weekend Mod weekend took place in this amazing city.
An event which is growing in popularity year on year with an estimated thousand plus scooters of all varieties, beautifully presented as were many of the riders in 60's attire, much of which was the genuine vintage. If you didn't have it you could buy it at the vintage-retro market selling men's and women's 60's style clothing along with records and accessories, all set up at the "Volks" bar/diner. The "Volks" of Quadrophenia fame being the daytime hub for the event. Evening entertainment was at both the "Volks Club" and the ever popular "Komeda".
The event lasting from Friday to Monday included competitions for best scooters, best dressed and a rideout on Sunday afternoon with scooters from all over the country and overseas.
This year being the 40th anniversary of Quadrophenia, a special open air screening of this iconic film took place with some cast members in attendance too. As well as great fun for the scooterists and Mods it was also a great spectacle for the thousands of visitors who flock to this vibrant jewel on Britain's south coast.”
