Having not ridden for 3 weeks after switching to the car for autumn/winter commuting to work, I thought I’d give the scoot a run, completely forgetting that I’d ridden back on reserve the last time I rode her.
After topping up the tyre pressures and gear oil I tried in vain to get her going, ignition on - check, fuel on - check.. after more attempts with the kickstart I wheeled the Motovespa down the drive for some bump starting on the street. Bedecked in my leather riding jacket and full face helmet, after 3-4 sprints down the road interspersed with walking back each time, still no joy and now sweating profusely - nice!!
Back down the garage and off with the engine panel and out with the plug; it was sparking okay..? Back in with the plug and more kickstarting - nothing. Blocked fuel pipe.. or come to think of it is there enough fuel in the tank?? Bingo! With the tap turned onto reserve, she starts first kick, what a doughnut..!!
Finally and we’re off.. to the petrol garage that is for some juice, once filled up I enjoyed a half hour run out in the now fading light and mild autumn weather - lovely!!
It happens to us all I guess.. or perhaps not, maybe it’s just me!
If you have anything to share here on the VVC website News page, please email me at vespamore@hotmail.co.uk if nothing else, think of it as doing us all a service and preventing us from having to look at more photos of my GT160; I know I’m bored of seeing her and pretty sure members must be!
Thanks in advance/desperation - Paul Hart (VVC Editor).
