VVC member, Peter Burley, has been busy of late organising one online road trial and five online treasure hunts. There’s been no chance this year of getting out on scooters to do actual events, so this is a pretty good substitute. Chatting with Peter, he did say participants should be prepared to be in front of their screens for a while so you will need time on your hands. Time is something I don’t tend to have much of; work taking up most of it but for retired members or those with spare time on their hands, this may be right up your street and an enjoyable challenge to boot - Peter explains below..
“There are six events and they gradually get more demanding, if any members want to try them, then help is available from me essexvespaclub007@gmail.com VCB members must register with VCB by emailing Toni at club-sec@vespaclub.uk and non VCB members direct to me. The closing date is 31/12/2020 for all of the events. Points are awarded for questions correctly answered. Points are deducted for time early or late at controls and also for mileage over or under the correct mileage.
The six events as follows - Essex R.T., Hampshire T.H. (Pubs), Northamptonshire T.H. (Museums), Derbyshire T.H (Country Houses and Museums), North West Region T.H (Football Stadiums and Museums) and Northern Ireland T.H (what you didn't see in 2018 at Vespa World Days). The winner will be the member who has the most place points from all six events. Points for positions; if 10 enter the winner gets 10 points all the way down to the 10th getting 1 point. On the other hand if 20 enter then 1st place member would get 20 points and so on.
These events should not be tried on your scooter as Cycle Routes, No through Roads, Private Roads, Canal Paths and Tracks have been used. It would be possible for routes to be altered should anyone wish to.
A limited number of cog badges will be ordered for those that have done at least one event. See badge design below which will be on my Facebook next week and I will have to order the badges by the end of November.” - Peter Burley.
Thanks to Peter Burley and good luck to those taking part!
