Cheltenham is a fair distance to travel for lunch from home in north Herts, but that would never stop committed VVC stalwarts, Peter and Carole Rose…
Cheltenham VC Ride out & Lunch 14th August
Each year the Cheltenham VC organises a day ride out with lunch for its members and friends within the Vespa family. This year I got to know of the date, checked the diary and found that we were free to attend. A quick phone call to Peter Hanman confirmed that we would be welcome to join them along with a few others.
The weather forecast was dreadful with heavy rain shown on the weather app. Despite this, ten of the nineteen riders who had booked to attend, arrived at the appointed start venue on nine Vespas and one Lambretta. Those who had thought better of it, we thought probably the more sensible ones, came along in their cars! However, as it turned out us riders were the fortunate ones; whilst the roads were wet, it didn’t really rain on us all day, that’s what happens when everybody is kitted out in full waterproofs!
Professionally organised by Cheltenham VC (Richard Rawlins, Peter Hanman and Doug Rees) we were all able to enjoy a superb ride out. Firstly to the “Gardener Arms” at Alderton for coffee, then the “Drum & Monkey” at Upton for a very good lunch (the pies are to be recommended), a rest stop at the” Red Lion” at Wainlodes, then back to Staverton Airport at Cheltenham for an end of day social get together at “The Aviator.” A jolly good day, thank you Cheltenham VC.
